ICSI Treatment Overview

ICSI, or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection, is a method of supporting the fertilization process outside of the body (extracorporeal). An individual sperm is injected into an oocyte via a thin capillary tube. In this way, fertilization can be achieved even if the quality of the sperms is deficient. Except for the sperm injection, ICSI Technique closely resembles IVF.

Indications for ICSI

    1. Severely deficient spermiogram parameters, e.g.:
Sperm density less than 10 million ((per ml))
Forward-moving sperms fewer than 25% (A, according to WHO)
Sperm morphology normal in fewer than 10% (according to WHO)

2. Failure or considerable deficiency of fertilization in a convention IVF cycle.

3. Fertilization with sperms derived from testes or epididymus (TESE/MESA)     in case of azoospermia.

4. Fertilization with cryopreserved sperms.

5. Fertilization in case of retrograde ejaculation.
